The Diesel Mechanic is a full‑time, on‑site role located in Cleveland Heights, OH, responsible for maintaining and repairing the city’s diesel‑powered vehicles and heavy equipment. Day‑to‑day tasks include performing diagnostic evaluations, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and completing repairs on engines, drive trains, braking systems, and hydraulics. The role involves conducting scheduled and preventive maintenance, inspecting equipment for safety and reliability, and documenting work performed in maintenance records.
The Diesel Mechanic will collaborate with other maintenance staff, follow safety regulations and city policies, and help ensure that municipal vehicles and equipment remain operational and service‑ready for city departments.
- Candidates should possess strong skills in Diesel Mechanics and Heavy Equipment service and repair.
- Candidates should possess skills in Vehicle Maintenance and Equipment Maintenance across a variety of municipal assets.
- Candidates should possess skills in Preventive Maintenance, including inspections, routine servicing, and documentation.
- Relevant technical training or certification in diesel technology, automotive or heavy equipment repair is highly beneficial.
- Experience with diagnostic tools, service manuals, and safety procedures in a fleet or public works environment is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, follow written and verbal instructions, and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Demonstrated reliability, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license; a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one may be beneficial.
