Mechanical Maintenance Technician – 2nd Shift (Press Shop) Job Description

This role focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing heavy‑duty stamping, hydraulic, and mechanical presses in a busy press shop environment. You will perform preventative and predictive maintenance to minimize production downtime, support die and tooling operations, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently in accordance with all safety regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems on high‑tonnage stamping presses, press brakes, and coil feeders.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance tasks, including inspecting rams, adjusting gib clearances, checking fluid levels, and replacing worn seals, bearings, and other critical components.
  • Support die and tooling operations by assisting with die setup, changeovers, and tooling repairs to maintain precise dimensional tolerances and consistent part quality.
  • Conduct daily safety checks on emergency stops, light curtains, clutch‑brake mechanisms, and related safety devices to ensure full compliance with OSHA and local safety regulations.
  • Document all maintenance activities, including repairs performed, parts used, and equipment failures, in the site’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Collaborate with production and tooling teams to identify root causes of recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability.
  • Monitor equipment performance and respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize production downtime and maintain schedule adherence.
  • Use mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagnostic tools and techniques to systematically troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Assist with equipment overhauls, rebuilds, and upgrades while following strict safety procedures and lockout/tagout requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools, parts, and equipment are stored safely and properly.
Essential Skills
  • 3–5+ years of hands‑on mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial press shop or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of heavy industrial machinery, including stamping presses, press brakes, coil feeders, and related equipment.
  • Proficiency with pneumatics, hydraulics, and power transmission components such as gears, bearings, shafts, and couplings.
  • Ability to interpret complex mechanical blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Experience performing preventive and predictive maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in press maintenance, including mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues.
  • Capability to perform die repair and tool maintenance to support press operations.
  • Basic welding skills for maintenance and repair tasks as needed.
  • Physical ability to frequently stand, bend, climb, and lift or move parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining compliance with OSHA and local safety regulations.

  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs within a press shop or metal stamping environment.

  • Comfort working in a high‑volume, heavy manufacturing setting with exposure to loud equipment.
  • Attention to detail and strong documentation skills for recording maintenance work and parts usage.
