Job Summary

Maintenance Technician - Utilities is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of plant utilities including ammonia refrigeration, steam, hot water, glycol, HVAC, fire protection systems, compressed air, and building maintenance. The technician also assists with packaging and production maintenance in critical situations and must be on call 24/7, filling in for vacations or absences.

    Certified Techs (RETA CIRO): $38–$40 + Shift Differential;
    Uncertified Techs (RETA CIRO): $29–$35 + Shift Differential
  • Schedule:

    Sunday‑Thursday;
    Shift: 3rd – 11 pm‑7:30 am;
    Shift Differential starts at 10:30 pm‑7:00 am at $2.25/hr

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain ammonia/CO2 refrigeration system.
  • Operate and maintain steam and hot water boiler systems.
  • Operate and maintain hot water heating systems.
  • Operate and maintain glycol systems.
  • Operate and maintain HVAC systems.
  • Maintain fire protection system.
  • Maintain compressed air systems.
  • Maintain safety systems.
  • Work with contractors as needed.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation and system transactions as required by all governmental regulatory agencies and Nestlé internal policies.
  • Maintain quality control per company guidelines.
  • Perform all job duties in accordance with the company’s safety guidelines.
  • Perform job rotations during scheduled workday depending on production needs.
  • Dispose of trash and clean work area thoroughly.
  • Work any assignment as directed by supervisor.
  • Work overtime as assigned by supervisor.
  • Assure regular and timely attendance per company guidelines.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Perform maintenance and repair to HVAC and industrial NH3 refrigeration systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair all refrigeration components including valves, pumps, electrical controls, compressors, etc.
  • Formal training and participation in the OSHA PSM/RMP and HAZMAT programs is preferred.

    Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience

    High school education, GED, RETA, CIRO certification preferred. Completion of the Nestlé Refrigeration training Matrix is required within the first two years in this role.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and comprehend simple to more complex instructions, formulas, policies and procedures. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight, measurement, volume and distance.

    Computer Skills

    Good computer knowledge. Ability to comprehend internal inventory system and input data accurately.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Must pass physical capacity evaluation examination. Additional specialized training provided in the form of NH3 certification classes to meet the standards of the PSM program. RETA CIRO certification within a two-year time frame is required.

    Physical Demands

    Stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, and hear regularly. Frequently climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Frequently push or pull pallets, bins, lugs or cylinders.
