The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) located in Cleveland, Ohio, is searching for an entry-level Mechanic within the Operations Division.
Duties:
Repairs buses, Paratransit vehicles, non-revenue vehicles, and associated equipment.
The ideal candidate in the position is directly responsible for all repairs and works independently as required.
Performs one or more of the following functions:
Engine Diagnosis, Engine Replacement, Engine and Small Parts Rebuilding, Transmission Replacement, Differential Replacement and/or Rebuild, Brake, Front End, Suspension/Steering Work, Transmission Rebuilding, General Maintenance.
The candidate in this position can be assigned to any of these duties according to need and can be reassigned to a different functional area at any time.
Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
Job Requirements:
– A high school diploma or G.E.D. required.
– Completion of a high school or post-high school Automotive/Diesel Technology or related program (as evidenced by diploma, degree, certificate, etc.) is also required.
– To substitute for completion of an Automotive/Diesel Technology program, two (2) years of verifiable experience in an automotive or truck shop maintaining and repairing vehicle systems (e.g., engines, transmissions, brakes, and steering and suspension) or an ASE certification will be considered.
– A valid temporary or permanent state of Ohio Commercial License (CDL) is required but not at the time of hire. Seeking Class “A” or “B” license with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.
– A valid state of Ohio Driver’s License with no more than four (4) points in the past (3) three years.
Those applicants who successfully pass the selection process without a permanent or temporary CDL may be offered the position contingent on obtaining the temporary CDL permit during training.
The Candidates will be expected to pass a background check and a post-offer physical that is job related and consistent with business necessity.
The performance of these duties may be required at any time of the day or night, any day and night of the week. The position is a bargaining unit position.
Examination Information:
Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process have to successfully pass an online assessment, performance test, and interview. To pass the online assessment and performance test the candidate must receive a minimum score of 70% or higher.
Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for Internal candidates:
Online Assessment 21.25%, Performance Test 21.25%, Interview 42.50%, and Record Evaluation 15%.
Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for External candidates:
Online Assessment 25%, Performance Test 25%, and Interview 50%.
All candidates must score a minimum composite score of 70% and complete an interview in order to establish eligibility for this position.
Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain 15% weight. Records evaluation information includes a review of the following:
5 or more absence occurrences
2 or more AWOL or absence control suspensions
3 or more active written reminders (regardless of the level)
5 or more misses (regardless of whether they are active or not active)
4 or more active tardies
