Field Services Engineer

Compensation:
Approximately $80,000 annualized + overtime at time-and-a-half

Travel:
Typically 2-6 overnight stays per month

Emerald Resource Group is partnering with an established Northeast Ohio manufacturer of specialized electrical equipment to find a hands-on Field Service Engineer / Field Service Technician with the potential to grow into the company’s Field Engineering Manager
.

This is a true succession opportunity.

The person hired will train directly with the company’s current field engineering leader, who has more than 20 years of experience with the organization. The goal is to transfer his technical knowledge, customer relationships, and field experience before his eventual retirement.

This is not a desk engineering role. It is a hands‑on position for someone who enjoys troubleshooting electrical equipment, working directly with customers, and solving problems in the field.

• Install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain specialized electrical equipment
• Perform preventive maintenance and identify equipment issues before failures occur
• Troubleshoot transformers, electrical controls, relays, wiring, switches, and related components
• Work with low- and medium-voltage systems, including occasional substation environments
• Read electrical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams
• Perform panel wiring, testing, and electrical troubleshooting
• Interface directly with electricians, utility personnel, engineers, project managers, and customers
• Prepare clear field service reports and explain findings and recommendations
• Work with internal engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve technical issues
• Gradually take on greater responsibility for the Field Engineering function

A four-year engineering degree is not required

We are more interested in someone with a strong electrical foundation, hands‑on troubleshooting ability, good communication skills, and a desire to grow into a leadership role.

• Journeyman or Industrial Electrician
• Electrical Field Service Technician
• Utility Electrical Technician
• Transformer Service or Testing Technician
• Switchgear Technician
• Industrial Maintenance Electrician
• Electrical Equipment Manufacturing

Strong transformer knowledge is highly desirable.

Experience with medium-voltage electrical systems, protection relays, switch gear, control panels, electrical schematics, preventive maintenance, testing equipment, or substation environments would be valuable.

The company is willing to invest significant time in training someone who has the right electrical foundation and aptitude.

This person will often be the face of the company at customer locations.

You need to be comfortable working independently, troubleshooting complex electrical issues, communicating with customers, and explaining problems and solutions in a clear and professional way.

Travel is relatively limited for a field service role, typically 2-6 overnight stays per month
.

Candidates should be comfortable working in manufacturing facilities, industrial environments, utility settings, and electrical substations.

A valid driver’s license is required.

This is a hands‑on role and may occasionally require handling components weighing up to approximately 50 pounds with appropriate mechanical assistance.

Starting compensation is approximately $80,000 annualized
, initially paid hourly during the training period, plus eligible overtime at time-and-a-half
.
