Job Summary
A Probation Officer 2 works to the best of their ability to reduce the risk of recidivism by working with youth on their caseload with the goal to encourage and invoke behavior change while working to keep the community safe. A Probation Officer II guides a youth and guardian through the probation process. They make appropriate referrals and recommendations based on the identified, individualized needs, and information gathered regarding the youth and family.
They work with the family to create and fulfill a probation case plan. The Probation Officer II ensures court guidelines and probation orders are adhered to.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Probation Officer 2 has responsibilities for investigation of cases and/or supervision of cases.
Provides services for pre and post-adjudicated youth and their families in a fast-paced, stressful environment in an effort to reduce recidivism and to minimize involvement into the juvenile justice system.
Interviews youth and families in their home, school, and probation office. Meets and interviews youth in the Detention Center or elsewhere as appropriate to develop a comprehensive social history and to obtain other relevant information for court presentations, and/or for further service planning. Performs in an environment that is fluid, frequently making last minute schedule changes to accommodate clients and professionals.
Provides ongoing case management services to clients placed on probation including monitoring behavior, and developing, re-evaluating, and modifying case plans, as needed. Uses creative thinking when traditional interventions are not successful.
Makes articulate, professional, measured oral presentations of cases in court hearings, possibly on a moment's notice, to Judges and Magistrates. Interprets court orders and makes necessary referrals to collateral agencies.
Prepares written reports that include case summaries, court reports, follow-up notes, and other correspondence. Reports must be concise, thorough, accurate, and very well written.
Confers with their supervisor to evaluate case priorities and participate in case consultations.
Participates on committees to resolve system issues and provide probation services for specialized populations, such as youth with violent behavior, youth with sex offense related cases, and youth with substance abuse concerns.
Uses analytical skills to identify needs and make appropriate referrals to meet the needs and risks of youth and families, as identified by The Ohio Youth Assessment System and other relevant assessment tools.
Provides comprehensive case management to youth and families with behavioral health and substance abuse concerns daily.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Has no direct supervisory responsibility for staff members.

All court-related information regarding hearings, etc. that the employee may come in contact with by working in the facility and confidential information that employee comes into contact with while working with probation clients.
