Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging (WRAAA) is a private non‑profit corporation, organized and designated by the State of Ohio to be the planning, coordinating and administrative agency for federal and state aging programs in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain and Medina Counties. It is one of twelve Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) in the state organized together with local service provider organizations and the Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) to form the state's public aging services network.
The network works together to create opportunities for older Ohioan's to receive needed home and community services and supports; and to age successfully in their own homes and communities.

The Social Work Intern will gain hands‑on experience working with older adults, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and caregivers through a variety of community‑based programs. Under the supervision of licensed social workers and program staff, the intern will assist with assessments, care coordination, benefits counseling, resource referrals, client advocacy, and case documentation. This internship provides practical exposure to healthcare, aging services, Medicaid programs, care transitions, and person‑centered service delivery.
Job Duties- Assist with client assessments, screenings, intake activities, and follow‑up contacts.
- Participate in care planning, resource coordination, and referral processes.
- Assist clients in accessing community resources, public benefits, Medicaid programs, and supportive services.
- Support staff with Medicaid eligibility research, benefit verification, and documentation activities.
- Learn to navigate and understand Medicaid, managed care, and waiver program requirements.
- Document client interactions, referrals, and program activities in agency databases while maintaining accurate records.
- Shadow staff during home visits, community outreach events, and client meetings.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, agency policies, and professional social work standards.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) program.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including older adults and individuals with complex needs.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems.
- Interest in aging services, healthcare, community services, care coordination, or public benefits programs.
- Reliable transportation is preferred for field‑based learning opportunities.
- Develop assessment, interviewing, documentation, and case management skills.
- Gain experience navigating healthcare, Medicaid, Medicare, and community support systems.
- Learn person‑centered planning, care coordination, and advocacy techniques.
- Participate in professional development, supervision, and field education activities.
