Position: Family Support Specialist (Floater role)
Position Summary The Family Support Specialist (FSS) supports students and families facing barriers to academic success, attendance, and social-emotional well-being. The FSS assesses needs, debelops strength-based student support plans, connects families to resources, and collaborates with school staff and community partners to address challenges such as chronic absenteeism, social-emotional barriers, housing instability, and family stressors. The FSS also supports exploring college, career, and workforce pathways, including awareness of access to the Say Yes!

Essential Job Functions Assesses and identifies student and family needs and develops strength-based student support plans in collaboration with families, school staff, and community partners, supporting implementation through progress monitoring and documentation of goals and outcomes.

Develops and maintains positive, trusting relationships with students and families through proactive engagement and outreach and serves as a liaison among school administrators, multidisciplinary teams, families, and community partners to coordinate services and support student success.

Connects students and families to appropriate school-based and community resources and services based on identified needs, including conducting family visits and other outreach as needed to address barriers to academic success, attendance, and social-emotional well-being.

Works collaboratively with school administration and multidisciplinary/School Support Teams to identify students requiring additional support, establish school-level priorities, coordinate interventions and resources, and support students experiencing attendance, academic, or other barriers.

Maintains timely, accurate, and comprehensive documentation and uses available student, family, referral, and service data to monitor outcomes and identify emerging patterns of need within the school community.

Collaborates with school staff and community partners to develop, coordinate, and support school- and community-based programs, activities, and events that respond to identified student and family needs.

Partners with community organizations to support students and families in exploring college, career, and workforce pathways, including awareness of and access to the Say Yes Cleveland Scholarship.

Other duties may be required and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; degree in social work, or counseling preferred

Master’s degree and/or professional licensure in social work, counseling, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience and advanced training will be considered.

Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Valid driver’s license required.

Ability to satisfactorily complete required background screenings

Experience working with/in social services and/or school systems preferred.

Additional Requirements Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including exemplary crisis communication and management skills, proficient in the use of computers and relevant technology.

Demonstrated ability to deliver culturally responsive services and work effectively with students and families from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to engage students and families and collaborate effectively with child welfare agencies, school systems, and community partners in a large urban setting.

Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish a plus.

Ability and willingness to meet families in their homes and attend community events during traditional and non-traditional work hours, as needed.

Ability to prepare, manage, and analyze reports.

Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner with Say Yes Partners.
