Software Engineer II, Backend (Identity Decisioning)
Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly. The Identity Engineering team owns the systems responsible for onboarding all consumers and managing their authentication and verification journeys across our product surfaces.
What You’ll Do- Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery of your work.
- Collaborate with product management, design & analytics, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs.
- Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on‑call and “keep the lights on” efforts.
- Contribute to team community by engaging in growth and development activities such as participating in the interview process.
- 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems and proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
- Familiarity with building blocks of distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes.
- Ability to transform a business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple components, writing clear, well‑tested, extensible code.
- Comfort navigating large code bases, debugging, providing feedback via code reviews.
- Ownership of growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting collaboration with global engineering team.
- Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Base Pay Grade - L
Equity Grade - 6
Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. We provide a simple and transparent pay structure.
CompensationBase pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents).
USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $160,000 - $210,000
USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $142,000 - $192,000
