Recreation Instructor - Jr Golf
Examples of DutiesUnder supervision, assists in the organization and instruction of recreational groups and classes within the various bureaus of the Division of Recreation. Assists supervisors as well as physical and recreation directors in an all‑inclusive city‑wide leisure time program and performs related duties as required. Organizes and conducts classes in handicrafts, folk dancing, nature lore, rhythm bands, needle craft, ceramics, poster making, sandcraft, games of high and low organization, story telling, community singing, dramatics, metalcraft, photography, music, leathercraft, and other leisure time and hobby activities.
Assists in teaching special skills, in the training of volunteer leaders, playground director, and leaders, organized neighborhood groups, and others. Assists at social parties, canteens, exhibits, open house programs, picnics, tournaments, meets, forums, and other gatherings. Assists other members of the staff as required. Keeps records and makes routine and special reports. Coordinates activities with a general recreation program. Attends staff meetings as required.
Performs other job‑related duties as required.
PERMANENT PART TIME -- A High School Diploma or GED is required. A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required.
SPORTS -- Experience in planning, developing, recruiting, implementing, and instructing youth/adults in various sports and other related programs is preferred.
ARTS -- Experience in planning, developing, recruiting, implementing, and instructing youth/adults in various visual art classes is preferred.
CAMP -- Experience in planning, developing, recruiting, implementing, and instructing youth/adults in various organized programs, outdoor programs preferred.
COMPUTER -- Experience in planning, developing, recruiting, implementing, and instructing youth/adults in various activities, computers and other programs is preferred. Volunteer experience will be considered.
The Junior Golf Instructor is responsible for teaching and supervising children ages 8–12 in a fun, safe, and supportive golf program. The role focuses on introducing fundamentals of golf, sportsmanship, and teamwork while promoting physical activity and confidence in young players.
Additional Duties/Responsibilities- Teach basic golf skills including grip, stance, swing, putting, and course etiquette
- Lead structured lessons, drills, and age‑appropriate golf games
- Supervise participants at all times to ensure safety on the course and practice areas
- Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and respectful behavior
- Adapt instruction to different skill levels and learning styles
- Assist with setting up and maintaining practice equipment
- Communicate clearly with participants, parents, and program staff
- Enforce program rules and safety guidelines
- Provide encouragement and positive feedback to build confidence and enjoyment
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience playing golf; prior coaching or instructional experience preferred
- Experience working with children ages 8–12
- Experience transporting children
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Patient, energetic, and positive attitude
- Ability to manage small groups of children
- Knowledge of golf, safety rules, and etiquette
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required.
- Outdoor golf course and practice facility
- Active role involving walking, standing, and demonstrating golf techniques
- Exposure to varying weather conditions
