Driver Position
Serving under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Driver will be heavily involved in donation pickups and transportation of persons for seasonal operations. The Driver will also work with the Social Services & Volunteer Coordinator to achieve assigned goals. The ideal candidate should be able to work independently while remaining teachable.
General duties and responsibilities include attending and contributing to all Department Head, General Staff & Ministry Team Meetings, assisting with the organization of fundraisers, as necessary, providing a suitable atmosphere throughout the Corps that is in line with Army standards and encouraging moderation in behavior, language, etc., bringing to the attention of the Corps Officers any problems and/or needs of the Corps, and facilitating, in every way possible, the mission of The Salvation Army, at the direction of the Corps Officers.
Essential duties and responsibilities include driving of a 12 passenger van and/or box truck for donation pickups, picking up food and/or merchandise from local stores and organizations, being responsible to load and unload donations, ensuring that they are securely packed and covered, cleaning out Salvation Army van and/or truck at the end of each day, helping with unloading delivery trucks upon returning to the facility, after packing away delivered items in pantry and storage area, making sure that all spills are swept and mopped, charting mileage when using any Salvation Army vehicles, and routine vehicle maintenance including cleaning (interior & exterior), fluid checks, etc.
Occasional duties and responsibilities include assisting with transporting persons during seasonal activities (Camp NEOSA, Kettles), when necessary, involvement with Emergency Disaster Service work, as needed, assisting Corps Officers with all Community & Public Relations Events, as needed, assisting with food deliveries when on-site, as requested by the Director of Operations and/or Social Services Coordinator, and any other duties as shall be required by the Supervisor or Administration.
Minimum education and/or experience includes a High School Diploma/GED with 1-2 years of related experience, a valid Commercial driver's license with a clean driving record, ability to lift up to 50 lbs., ability to function in a fast-paced, frequently changing work environment with the ability to multi-task, ability to operate pallet-jack equipment & lift-gates, as necessary, strong organization skills and being detail oriented, a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving, ability to relate well to all people and be a team player, and excellent communication skills.
