General Labor

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., a leading steel producer.

The General Laborer is responsible for the processing of scrap metals using a variety of tools and equipment.

• Ensure adherence to safety standards and use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Load and unload materials from storage, production areas, docks, delivery vehicles, staging areas, and containers using mobile equipment or hand.
• Sort recycled materials and metals to separate high‑grade metals and remove non‑conforming metals.
• Operate and maintain mobile equipment including forklifts, skid steers, street sweeper, and water trucks.
• Use hand tools (torch, bander, chop saw, alligator shear, saw zall, wire snips) and perform physical labor tasks.
• Identify scrap grade and material type; identify undesirable elements.
• Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles as required.
• Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping.
• Assist mechanics in equipment maintenance.
• Interact with customers or drivers to direct or assist them.
• Perform other general labor tasks as required.

• At least 18 years of age.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Experience operating mobile equipment preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to climb ladders or steps and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
• Ability to work in an environment with dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate, and weather changes.
• Pre‑employment background, physical, and hair drug screen required.

$17–24 per hour, based on experience.
