Starting salary $41,914.82
The City of Cleveland is seeking a customer-focused and detail-oriented Permit Technician. This position performs specialized clerical and administrative work related to the receipt, review, processing, and issuance of building, zoning, and other municipal permits. The Permit Technician serves as a key point of contact for contractors, developers, property owners, and the public while supporting the City’s permitting and development review processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide information and assistance regarding permit application and review processes to customers in person and by telephone.
- Receive, review, process, and issue building, zoning, and related permits.
- Conduct initial reviews of permit applications for completeness and route applications to appropriate departments and officials for review.
- Maintain permit, licensing, and inspection records and issue Certificates of Occupancy.
- Receive and process payments for permits, licenses, applications, and related fees; reconcile cash drawer and maintain accurate financial records.
- Schedule inspections for contractors and inspectors.
- Verify contractor licensing, workers’ compensation coverage, and general liability insurance.
- Assist with Historic Preservation Commission administrative functions, including processing applications, preparing agendas and minutes, and coordinating legal advertisements.
- Maintain accurate records and provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Six (6) months of administrative or clerical experience in local government preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Strong organizational, customer service, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers and standard office software applications.
- Ability to accurately maintain records, handle cash transactions, and work effectively with the public.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers, contractors, and the public.
- Reliable attendance and dependability are essential.
- The entry level annual salary for this position is $41,914.82. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package, including retirement, health insurance, paid leave, and other employee benefits.
