TITLE:
SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS

    JOB GOAL

    To provide academic and behavior intervention in specific skill deficit areas to students with disabilities (SWDs.)

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain all special education paperwork in a timely manner including Instructionally Appropriate Individual Education Program (IAIEP)
  • Prepare progress reports for each grading period and send report to parents
  • Administer tests and monitor students’ progress on a regular basis
  • Use EasyIEP for the development of IAIEPs and other reports
  • Attend and chair IAIEP and S-Team meetings as well as consult with parents, administrators, school psychologists, and other professionals
  • Work with assigned educational assistants in classroom and provide direction/support/guidance
  • Implement individualized academic intervention in skill deficit areas, adaptive skills, communication, social skills, behavior intervention and pre-vocational skills
  • Complete Reevaluation Summary Report, observations of students, and other forms for school psychologists to review
  • Work collaboratively with Behavior Interventionists and teachers and follow recommendations in the Behavior Intervention Plan for SWDs’ behavior
  • Assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the classroom
  • Plan curriculum and prepare lessons and other materials, considering factors such as individual needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations of the students
  • Attend required Professional Development trainings
  • Establish student behavior and expect students to maintain standards of classroom behavior
  • Keep classroom work environment organized and order/manage materials and supplies
  • Know and follow all safety rules and procedures
  • Prepare for assigned classes and show evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor
  • Maintain order in classroom and schoolyard
  • Report to the principal when one knows or reasonably suspects that a student’s health or welfare has been or appears to have been harmed as a result of abuse or neglect
  • Represent the schools and the community in a positive manner
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 50 lbs., or the average weight of a child, if assigned to elementary school, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:
