Position: Cleveland High School Counselor (Part-Time) (Dual Enrollment)
TITLE SCHOOL COUNSELOR - SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Tennessee teacher’s license with appropriate endorsementAdministrative or supervisory experience in accordance with state law and State Board Rules and Regulations, based on the minimum of a master’s degreeMeets health and physical requirementsSuch alternatives to the qualifications as the Director may find appropriateFLSA exemptREPORTS TO

JOB GOAL
To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making education, occupational, and life plans.
School counselors should possess the knowledge, abilities, skills and attitudes necessary to plan, organize, implement and evaluate a comprehensive, developmental, results-based school counseling program that aligns with the ASCA National Model.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Registers students new to the school and orients them to school proceduresAids students in course and subject selectionsMaintains student records and protects their confidentialityWorks to resolve students’ educational benefitsWorks to discover and develop special abilities of studentsWorks to prevent students from dropping out of schoolProvides student information to colleges and potential employers according to provisions of the Board’s policy on student recordsMakes recommendations to colleges for admission and scholarshipsGuides students in their participation in school and community activitiesPlans field trips to schools, colleges, and industry for interested studentsObtains and disseminates occupational information to students and to classes studying occupationsHelps students evaluate career interests and choicesOrganizes activities that promote “College and Career Ready” awarenessWorks with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustmentProvides counseling to students who are referred as having problems in attendance, retention, discipline, and pre‑delinquencyConfers with parents whenever necessaryProvides in-service training in guidance for teachers and student teachersAdvises administrators and faculty on the matters of student behaviorCoordinates building level S-Team meetingsConducts ADHD evaluations when requestedServes as building level 504 CoordinatorServes as building level “Students in Transition” LiaisonAssists with state testingAssists in the orientation of new faculty membersPerforms other duties as assigned by the PrincipalPHYSICAL DEMANDS
