Resident Assistant - 7p-7a

Position Summary

Provides routine daily nursing care and services that support the care delivered to residents requiring long‑term or rehabilitative care, in accordance with established nursing care procedures and as directed by the supervisor. An active approach to resident care is taken and not passive maintenance. RAs will be deeply involved in resident activities and programming and must understand and have a desire to continue to grow in dementia‑specific care.

• Carries out daily resident programming and activities.
• Assists the resident in daily routines, personal care, and housekeeping tasks.
• Reports observations and other pertinent information related to the care of the resident.
• Provides services that support the care delivered to the resident and reviews care plans daily to determine if changes are needed.
• Provides input in the formulation and evaluation of standards of care.
• Participates in the identification of team member educational needs.
• Conducts work in a professional manner in compliance with unit facility policies.
• Surveys for safety, picks up resident’s room each day, removes soiled linens, and changes bed linens, towels, and washcloths once a week or as necessary.
• Performs checks on residents and assists in toileting or cleaning of soiled residents.
• Ensures that all resident call lights are promptly answered with appropriate responses to requests.
• Assists with dietary responsibilities, including serving meals and cleaning the meal area when needed.
• Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or the Executive Director.
• Follows safety and infection control policies and procedures, including regular and thorough handwashing and proper use and disposal of personal protective equipment.
• Ensures confidentiality of all residents.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• High‑school graduation or equivalent.
• Experience working with the elderly is desirable.
• CPR and first‑aid training (preferred).
• Can deal tactfully with team members, residents, families, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Can make independent decisions when circumstances warrant action.
• Interprets instructions presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Can cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
• Displays caring and compassionate behavior toward residents and team members.
• Can relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset or hostile people within the community.
• Willing to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into practices.

• Requires standing, bending, talking, hearing, walking, and sitting regularly; occasionally climbing stairs.
• Uses hands and fingers to touch, handle, and feel; reaches with hands and arms; lifts and/or moves objects up to 50 pounds.
• Requires good vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus).
• Must lift and transfer residents using proper body mechanics.

Works in well‑lit, ventilated areas and may be exposed to small resident pets. Exposure to falls, burns from equipment, infectious diseases, substances, odors, and stressful interactions with residents, family members, personnel, or visitors may occur throughout the workday.
