PRE-APPRENTICE WATER OR WASTEWATER UTILITY CRAFTSWORKER

Cleveland Utilities Authority, a municipal utility providing electric, water, wastewater and fiber services to the Cleveland, Tennessee/Bradley County area is seeking a Pre-Apprentice Water or Wastewater Utility Craftsworker. This position consists of working on a service crew team in the installation and repair of water mains or sewer mains, water service lines or sewer service lines, valves, water meters, fire hydrants, manholes, etc.

This position may require working in the excavation site where the utility is located or assist with cutting pavement with power tools, manual excavation with pick and shovel, removing manhole covers and any related work. May assist in cleaning sewer lines and sewer line rehabilitation. Will include daily stocking, inspection and cleaning of crew vehicles and other duties as directed by Foreman/Supervisor.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• A valid Class “A” Tennessee Driver’s License with an “N” endorsement or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to obtain Collections II or Water Distribution II state license.
• Ability to cooperate with coworkers and work as a team.
• Must be self‑motivated and have good time management skills.
• Must be able to work after regular working hours when needed.
• Mechanically inclined.
• Ability to meet all requirements to enter Cleveland Utilities’ Utility Craftsworker Apprentice Program.
• Ability to perform call duty after designated training period and must live within 15 miles of the main campus or 30‑minute commute via Google Maps.

• Ability to load and unload boring machine and tapping machine or manhole frame and covers weighing up to 150 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to handle torque of operating water and sewer valves.
• Ability to open and close manhole covers weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to use jackhammers weighing up to 90 pounds.
• Ability to lift and carry water or sewer pipe weighing up to 70 pounds.
• Ability to use hand tools including wrenches, shovels, pipe saws, pavement cutting saws, etc.
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Ability to participate in the Utility Craftsworker Apprentice program.
