Bookkeeper/ Accounting Clerk
Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Utility Billing Clerk is responsible for performing utility billing and account maintenance functions, including processing payments, balancing daily transactions, assisting with billing cycles, and providing customer account support. This role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to handle financial transactions and customer inquiries in a professional manner.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Receive and process payments for City utility services (in-person, drive-thru, mail, drop box, and online).
- Issue receipts and maintain records of deposits, utility payments, past-due balances, reconnects, and related transactions.
- Balance daily receipts, reconcile accounts, and prepare bank deposits.
- Post payments and account adjustments in the City’s utility billing system.
- Provide account status information and assist customers with billing or service questions.
- Assist with utility billing cycles, including importing meter reads, reviewing exception reports, generating bills, and preparing billing statements for mailing.
- Prepare reports as directed for accounting and recordkeeping.
- Complete clerical and administrative duties related to utility billing, accounts receivable, and data entry.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the Water Administration Department.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- One (1) to two (2) years of prior experience in customer service, cash handling/collections, or clerical/administrative support in an office setting required.
- Accounting or bookkeeping experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word) preferred.
- Prior experience with utility billing or accounting software preferred.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and criminal background check.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial transactions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive customer and City information.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new software and processes.

Salary and ClassificationSalary Range: $34,190 – $49,575
FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt
Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.;
Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
