TISD Classroom Substitute

Primary

Purpose:

To enable students in the assigned area to pursue their education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Be dependable and of high moral character

Ability to work well with children

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Some experience working with children

Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

* Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he is assigned

* Supervises the lessons outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.

* Consults with the building principal before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the regular teacher's plans.

* Verifies with the school secretary that his attendance will or will not be required on the following teaching day.

* Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.

* Maintain confidentiality

* Maintain positive and effective communications and relationships with supervisors and colleagues.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Copier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment

Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment

Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise
