Valve Specialist
Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) is seeking applicants to become a member of our production team at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Cleveland, Texas. The Valve Specialist is responsible for the construction, repair, testing, and support of tank car valves and fittings. This role is ideal for individuals with mechanical aptitude who are eager to learn a skilled trade through hands-on, on-the-job training in a unionized manufacturing environment. Duties may vary, and employees may be asked to perform additional job functions as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Disassemble and assemble fittings on tank cars
- Test tank car, fittings, and valves to detect defects
- Rebuild tank car fittings and valves using specified procedures
- Identify and repair leaks in tank car coils
- Conduct single-car brake test when required
- Fit mechanical parts and subassemblies into machinery or products
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and report potential safety hazards
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, or ability to pass a Combined Basic Skills Assessment Test
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly documents
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work any shift, including overtime, as permitted by the union contract
- Dependable attendance and reliability
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an Industrial Repair or Manufacturing environment.
- Rail industry experience
- Valve and fittings experience
- Tank car knowledge or experience
Work Environment &
Schedule:
- Work is performed in an industrial railcar repair environment involves regular exposure to challenging physically demanding and environmental conditions.
- Duties may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, heat, and noise is common
- Job requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting, climbing, working at heights, and working in confined spaces
- Must be able to enter tank cars through 20-inch manway openings
- Manual dexterity and physical coordination required for tool and equipment operation
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials due to leaks or spills
- Must comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols
- Vision correctable to 20/30 for inspection tasks
- On-site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with overtime as required.
Pay Range: 26.59
