Position Summary:

The Cleaning Rack Operator is an entry‑level position responsible for safely cleaning, testing, and preparing rail tank car interiors by operating cleaning and monitoring equipment, with comprehensive on‑the‑job training, while following confined‑space, environmental, safety, and quality regulations in an industrial outdoor setting. Duties may vary, and employees may be asked to perform additional job functions as needed.

Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) is seeking applicants to become a member of our production team at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Cleveland, Texas. Primary Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:

Review cleaning and testing procedures prior to performing assigned work and before entering tank cars Learn, follow, and comply with confined space entry procedures and all applicable safety policies

Verify calibration of testing equipment to ensure accurate readings, including LEL meters, oxygen content meters, pH meters, and Draeger meters

Connect and operate high‑pressure air, steam, and water hoses, along with cleaning rack equipment

Perform manual cleaning of tank interiors as required

Operate and monitor testing equipment throughout the cleaning process

Ensure cleaning procedures and equipment comply with company standards and EPA regulations

Maintain a clean, organized work area and promptly report potential safety hazards

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent, or ability to pass a Combined Basic Skills Assessment Test Demonstrated job‑related computational skills and ability to read gauges, rulers, and applicable measuring devices

Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and as part of a team Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision

Ability to read, interpret, and adhere to safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and other work-related documentation

Strong focus on safety and quality.

Ability to work any shift, including overtime, in accordance with the union contract

Dependable and reliable attendance

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an Industrial Repair or Manufacturing environment.

Rail industry experience

Tank car knowledge or experience

Work Environment &

Schedule:

Work is performed in an industrial railcar repair environment involves regular exposure to challenging physically demanding and environmental conditions.

Duties may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions

Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, heat, and noise is common

Job requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting, climbing, working at heights, and working in confined spaces

Must be able to enter tank cars through 20‑inch manway openings

Manual dexterity and physical coordination required for tool and equipment operation

Potential exposure to hazardous materials due to leaks or spills

Must comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols

On-site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with overtime as required.
