Senior Clerk Your Specific Responsibilities

Senior Clerk position is responsible for general clerical and cashiering, and reception at the Clewiston location of the Hendry County Health Department (CHD). Provides electronic file maintenance for the Department of Health in Hendry and Glades Counties by sorting documents, scanning and filing them in appropriate electronic medical, environmental, and personnel files. Maintains confidentiality of information and ensures departmental functions are accomplished in accordance with state and local policies and procedures.

Provides back‑up duties for other clerical positions and reports directly to the Operations & Management Consultant I SES at the CHD. Works at the Hendry CHD LaBelle location and the Glades CHD in Moore Haven as required.

Specifically, the Senior Clerk:

  • Manages and routes emails.
  • Handles incoming calls when forwarded to the Front Desk.
  • Attends and participates in Quality Improvement Activities, in‑service programs and staff meetings.
  • Completes mandatory Department of Health training and other assigned training within specified time frames.

Other duties include:

  • Maintaining accurate logs, updates computerized system on closure activities and participates in the closure of inactive medical records.
  • Researching records and tracing documents.
  • Working independently at the front desk: answering phones, screening and directing calls and messages.
  • Greeting clients and visitors promptly, determining their needs, and responding accordingly.
  • Acting as an interpreter when requested.
  • Providing cashier services for clients, including charging from super bills, collecting fees, and balancing through the Health Management System (HMS) billing function.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish (verbal & written).
