Field Surveyor

The Field Surveyor is responsible for performing construction layout and grade control for assigned jobsite. This position utilizes GPS systems and related surveying equipment to support dirt work operations, machine control systems, mass grading, utility installation, and site development. The Field Surveyor works closely with project managers, superintendents, and equipment operators to ensure accurate implementation of design plans in the field.

Key responsibilities include utilizing GPS equipment (base/rover systems), robotic total stations, and survey level for field measurements. Experience with Trimble equipment and software is preferred. The Field Surveyor establishes and maintains horizontal and vertical control on active construction sites, verifies benchmarks and control points throughout the project duration, and performs construction layout for grading, pads, slopes, and structures.

Additional duties involve performing grade checks for excavations, embankments, subgrades, and finished surfaces, supporting and troubleshooting GPS machine control systems for dozers, excavators, and motor graders, uploading and verifying 3D models and design surfaces for field equipment, conducting as-built surveys for final grade of completed work, coordinating survey activities with the team to maintain production efficiency, maintaining and calibrating survey equipment to ensure accuracy, conducting research in surveying and mapping methods, and ensuring compliance with project specifications, tolerances, and safety standards.

Basic functional job requirements include understanding of construction staking, grade control, and earthwork principles, ability to read and interpret civil construction plans, grading plans, and cross-sections, effective communication skills, both oral and written, proficiency in MS Office applications, ability to work in a team and independently in outdoor environments, detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision, and physical ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally.

This exam is essential to ensure that all potential employees meet the necessary health and fitness standards for the role. The examination includes a series of tests and evaluations conducted by a certified medical professional to assess overall physical health, identify any potential medical conditions that could interfere with job performance, and verify that the candidate is capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position.

Completion and clearance of this physical are mandatory steps in the hiring process.
