Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid Florida teaching certificate in specialized field.
  • Special training and experience in working with students who are deaf and hard of hearing is preferred.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening.
Job Goal

To provide individual, direct, and consultative services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the least restrictive environments required by the Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Director of Exceptional Student Education and Student Services

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current instructional methodologies used to educate deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Knowledge of use and application of amplification systems for deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Knowledge of sign language systems used by deaf and hard of hearing students; communicate with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Skills to develop IEPs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Skills to differentiate instruction to meet the needs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Skills to work collaboratively with parents, general education staff and administrators.
  • Skills to train students and teachers in the use and care of amplification systems used by students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Ability to educate general education staff in the unique needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the general education staff to develop appropriate educational programs for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Responsibilities / Duties Performance Responsibilities Planning / Preparation
  • Participate and assist general education teachers in planning differentiated instruction that meets the needs of individual students who are deaf and hard of hearing for the purpose of allowing individual students who are deaf and hard of hearing to access the core curriculum.
  • Participate in the district's Exceptional Student Education planning process.
  • Collect information from parents and teachers through interviews and consultations as it relates to student learning and adjustment difficulties.
  • Participate as a member of school educational planning teams to develop assistance plans for at-risk students.
  • Participate in the development of accommodation plans for students eligible for 504 services.
  • Plan and prepare evidence-based intervention strategies for parents and teachers to enable students to become engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
Service Delivery
  • Adheres to the schedules and policies established by the School District of Hendry County for the purpose of providing appropriate services to students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Provide appropriate individual assessments of problems resulting from a hearing loss for the purpose of making recommendations for program placements and services.
  • Provide individualized instruction to students who are deaf and hard of hearing based on the current IEP goals for the purpose of allowing students who are deaf and hard of hearing to access the core curriculum.
  • Provide in-service/training to students and teachers of individual and classroom amplification systems used by students who are deaf and hard of hearing for the purpose of allowing students who are deaf and hard of hearing to access their educational program.
Administrative / Management
  • Complete and submit appropriate Medicaid forms for eligible students.
  • Prepare and maintain periodic reports in a timely manner as required.
  • Implement school-wide and district-wide behavioral services and activities.
  • Maintains student records for the purpose of compliance of state and federal laws pertaining to students with a disability requiring special education services.
  • Manage materials and equipment effectively.
  • Manage time effectively.
  • Use technology efficiently.
Assessment / Evaluation
  • Evaluates personal professional growth needs and attends in services/training as appropriate for the purpose of remaining current with present trends in instructional materials and practices that can be implemented to enhance daily instruction of students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Use data-based decision making as part of the intervention assessment and evaluation methods.
  • Conduct informal and formal observations of students as part of the evaluation process.
  • Review student records and analyze information pertinent to student learning and school behavioral/social/emotional needs.
  • Participate in the periodic re-evaluation of students with disabilities who are served in exceptional student education programs.
