Project Engineer

ProjectScope and Responsibilities
Project Engineer is expected to develop a project from an idea to a scope definition that includes a PFD, a P&, a written description of the project, and a cost estimate for the project. With time the engineer will initialize projects, become the technical resource for operations and maintenance and be able to commission and train. The project engineer is expected to be customer-focused and to display discipline, attention to detail, and teamwork in all aspects of the work.
The focus of this position is to produce measurable results in Environmental/Health/Safety, Quality and Food Safety, and Financial performance through the effective and efficient implementation of projects and improvements to existing equipment.
- Project Management:
Oversee and manage engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget and meet quality standards. - Design and Development:
Work with process engineers, reliability engineers, maintenance managers and other specialists to design engineering solutions that improve operations and reliability, focusing on efficiency and safety. Often includes non‑capital modifications. - Collaboration:
Work closely with operations, maintenance and safety to coordinate project activities and demonstrate a customer‑focused approach. - Technical Support:
Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams, improving root cause analysis and problem resolution during daily operations. - Compliance and Standards:
Ensure all project activities comply with relevant regulations and standards, including environmental, health and safety guidelines. - Budget Management:
Prepare budget estimates, monitor spending and control costs, supported by proper scope definition including PFD and/or P& needed. - Documentation:
Prepare project documentation such as schematics, operations manuals and safety guidelines, keeping all documentation up‑to‑date. - Vendor Management:
Maintain regular contact with vendors and on‑site contractors, ensuring delivery, quality and compliance with Savannah’s requirements and contractual obligations. - Innovation and Improvement:
Continuously seek to improve processes through technological innovation and efficiency initiatives, contributing to process or procedural changes.
- Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably chemical or mechanical. Experience over an engineering degree may qualify with a minimum of 10 years’ experience, at least half in sugar factory operations. - Experience:
Prior experience in project management and engineering within a manufacturing, industrial or refinery environment is highly advantageous. - Technical
Skills:
Basic proficiency in engineering software and tools such as AutoCAD, project management software and equipment sizing programs (pumps and piping). Knowledge of steam utilization and proper design considerations is critical. - Analytical
Skills:
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to handle project management challenges effectively. - Communication
Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with stakeholders and preparing effective reports. - Leadership and Interpersonal
Skills:
Strong leadership to manage teams and projects, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members and other departments.

Percentage of time equipment is fully operational. - Mean Time to Repair (MTTR):
