Summary:
Responsible for overseeing the farming practices planting, fertilizing, growing, cultivation, pest management, cane quality, etc. for specific areas of land. Generally provides day-to-day work activities for a team of 8+ members.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Respect and lead team members to perform work responsibilities according to the United States Sugar Corporation’s Mission and Value statements.
- Oversee the planning, preparation and implementation of farming practices and objectives; prepare daily work schedules for farm employees.
- Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
- Responsible for training farm employees to perform duties and responsibilities as efficiently and effectively as possible. Ensures farm employees are performing at optimum production levels and contributes to the overall production and efficiency of the farm.
- Manage farm equipment, including the scheduling and allocation of equipment between the various farming areas. Communicate the state of repair or disrepair to appropriate representative (Maintenance Supervisor, Operations Support, Fleet Manager, etc.).
- Be keenly aware of farming expenses and ensure operation within budgetary guidelines.
- Assist Area Manager in the development and implementation of effective cost control measures ensuring costs and expenses are maintained within budgeted amounts; recommends cost control measures to Area Manager.
- Communicate personnel related changes in a timely manner to ensure efficient processing of job/pay changes and current personnel records. Review and approve time cards and attendance records for team members.
- Evaluate team member performance and complete annual performance evaluations as required; coach, offer feedback and conduct counseling sessions to team members who are not performing up to department and company standards; responsible for developing solid employee/employer relations.
- Maintain consistent open lines of communication with all levels within the organization and promote team atmosphere within the farm and ensure open lines of communication with team; train and develop knowledge base of team members.
- Partner with maintenance team, harvest operations as well as other departments within the company to ensure effective working relationships
- Provides the highest quality professional and technical assistance to internal customer base;
Maintain professional and courteous relationships with all departments within the company. - Coach, counsel and educate team of department, company, and Human Resources policies and procedures; support United States Sugar Corporation’s Standards of Conduct/Work Rules Violation policy;
Take corrective action as needed when violations occur. - Comply with and enforce environmental regulations, maintain safety rules and standards. Must understand and adhere to all U.S.S.C. and Agricultural Department’s policies and procedures, including but not limited to, safety policies and procedures.
- Evaluates reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
- Attend departmental meetings and safety meeting when scheduled.
