TEMPORARY Colorado River Invasive Species Outreach & Education Technician

Position Summary

This is a temporary position (9 months or less) paid $18.00 per hour. Employment begins 05/02/2026 and ends 10/31/2026. The role is based on the Colorado River at designated boat launches and reports to the James M. Robb Corn Lake State Park for assignment.

• Support the State Invasive Species Program through public outreach to non‑motorized water recreation groups on the Colorado River.
• Educate outfitters, anglers, hunters, and non‑motorized watercraft users about aquatic invasive species and proper decontamination practices.
• Provide surveys, attend user group events and expositions, and educate recreational outfitters.
• When outreach is not required, support Program Manager and Invasive Species Specialists by performing a variety of tasks including:
  • Watercraft inspection and decontamination.
  • Quality control assessment.
  • Inventory management.
  • Reviewing and editing technical reports.
  • Distributing supplies to field locations.
  • Data entry.
• Participate in boat inspection and outreach training as provided.

• Serve as the lead communicator between the ANS Specialist and crew members.
• Ensure all crew members are respectful and manage conflict when needed.
• Ensure the crew has all necessary working equipment for the week's operations, maintain equipment in good working order, and report any problems or issues directly to the ANS Specialist.
• Host regular check‑ins with staff to address ongoing needs.
• Early morning, evening, and weekend work required.

• Excellent driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays.
• Ability to drive long distances and remain alert.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, early morning and late evenings.
• Willingness to be flexible with daily/weekly scheduling as field work may be dictated by weather.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and willingness to approach and engage the public.
• Reliable and timely.
• Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to self‑motivate and work independently.

• Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment.
• Ability to trailer cleaning units on highways and steep mountain roads.
• Excellent customer service skills and/or experience working with the public.
• Experience with Microsoft and Google applications.
• Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or higher education.
