About the Role
The Practice Leader will be responsible for growing a Water/Wastewater engineering practice, combining business development, client relationship management, technical leadership, and team building. You will have access to existing work to support your transition but are expected to build and expand your own portfolio of clients and projects over time.
Responsibilities- Lead and expand a Water/Wastewater consulting practice.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships within the water and wastewater markets.
- Generate new business through your professional network and market presence.
- Deliver and oversee high-quality technical work on water and wastewater projects.
- Balance billable utilization with ongoing business development activities.
- Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing team as the practice grows.
- Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and client meetings.
- Collaborate with firm leadership on strategic growth initiatives and market positioning.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to high quality and safety standards.
- Establish and grow a sustainable book of business aligned with the firm’s strategic priorities.
- Maintain a strong balance between project delivery and business development.
- Expand and deepen client relationships while transitioning and elevating existing accounts.
- Drive consistent new project opportunities and diversify the client base.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team over time.
- 15+ years of experience in water/wastewater consulting.
- Degree in Environmental, Chemical, Civil Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in New Jersey.
- Proven ability to generate work and manage client relationships.
- Strong technical and project delivery experience in water/wastewater projects.
- Experience managing, mentoring, and developing teams.
- Comfort operating in a client facing, business development oriented role.
- Senior professional with a strong market reputation in the water and wastewater space.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire for autonomy, accountability, and upside.
- Comfortable working in a performance driven environment with direct impact on outcomes.
- Those who prefer purely technical roles with limited client interaction.
- Candidates unwilling to engage in business development and networking.
- Individuals who rely primarily on firm branding rather than personal relationships to generate business.
