Applicants must comply with the following basic qualification standards:

• Current Certification from the NJ Police Training Commission for the Basic Course for Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II
• United States Citizen that possesses a valid driver’s license
• Age 18 or older
• Possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Be of good moral character
• Good physical condition
• Pass Background Investigation, Medical Examination, Psychological Profile

The applicant MUST hold a current SLEO Class II certification from a New Jersey Police Training Commission Certified Police Academy.

These officers have the same authority and arrest powers as a full time police officer while they are employed. In addition to the above responsibilities they have the responsibility of carrying a firearm.

The Lower Township Police Department consists of 50 full time sworn officers and up to 10 SLEO Class II officers. Our year round population is just over 21,000 and in the summer months over 102,000. We have approximately 45,000 calls for service a year. We are a four time NJSACOP Accredited Agency. We are hiring up to 5 SLEO II officers and specifically interested in the immediate hire of anyone already academy trained that meets our hiring criteria.
