Job Description
Pay Range: $30hr - $40hr
- The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs laboratory testing and related activities in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- This role supports accurate test analysis, reporting, quality control, and compliance while maintaining patient confidentiality and laboratory safety standards.
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting, and record maintenance.
- Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures and departmental SOPs.
- Review and release test results accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are handled the same as patient specimens.
- Adhere to regulatory, safety, and laboratory quality guidelines.
- Document quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
- Follow established policies when test systems fall outside acceptable performance levels.
- Identify issues affecting test performance or result reporting and take corrective action or notify appropriate personnel.
- Document all corrective actions when systems deviate from performance specifications.
- Report STAT or critical results according to departmental procedures.
- Respond to inquiries from customers or laboratory personnel when applicable.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of all on-site testing performed.
- Maintain the general appearance and organization of the department.
- Ensure reagents and test kits are properly labeled with received, opened, and expiration dates.
- Review and train on new procedures as required.
- Attend department meetings, training, and educational sessions.
- Participate in required safety training and inspections as needed.
- Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
- Solid understanding of basic laboratory testing principles.
- Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance practices across laboratory areas.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to work across multiple systems.
- Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple procedures simultaneously.
- Ability to interact effectively with other departments and clients while maintaining confidentiality.
- Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience in high‑complexity testing preferred.
- Clinical laboratory experience required for candidates with Chemistry or Biology degrees.
- Laboratory testing and analysis.
- Quality control and quality assurance.
- Attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Customer service and communication skills.
- Time management and multitasking.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biology, or an Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology acceptable.
- Eligibility for national certification as an MT or MLT from a recognized organization preferred.
