Duration: 03 Month Contract (Possibility of extension or conversion)

Shift: Tuesday – Saturday 9 am-5:30 pm

Pay Rate: $35 - $40/hour (W2) (Based on experience and education)

Position Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technologist/Technician performs high-complexity laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures, regulatory requirements, and quality standards. This role is responsible for specimen processing, analysis, reporting of results, quality control, and maintaining compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory policies.

Key Responsibilities Laboratory Testing & Analysis
  • Perform specimen handling, processing, and analysis according to department SOPs.
  • Conduct testing using approved procedures and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Review, verify, and release test results accurately and timely.
  • Ensure proficiency testing samples are handled in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of all testing performed on-site.
  • Report STAT and critical results according to department protocols.
Quality Control & Compliance
  • Adhere to laboratory quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) policies.
  • Document QC activities, calibrations, maintenance, and procedural updates.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues affecting test performance; implement corrective actions or notify senior staff.
  • Document deviations and corrective actions taken when systems fall outside acceptable performance levels.
  • Participate in regulatory inspections and audits as required.
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
Safety & Training
  • Participate in safety training and maintain knowledge of safety manuals and equipment.
  • Maintain awareness of safety equipment location and proper usage.
  • Attend department meetings, training sessions, and continuing education programs.
  • Review and train on new procedures as assigned.
Operational & Administrative Duties
  • Maintain department cleanliness and organization.
  • Ensure reagents/test kits are properly labeled with received, opened, and expiration dates.
  • Interact professionally with clients and other departments.
  • Answer technical or procedural questions when applicable.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong understanding of laboratory testing principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA).
  • Familiarity with all areas of the laboratory.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and ability to work across multiple platforms.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple procedures simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strict adherence to patient confidentiality standards.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology (preferred),
    OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Biology,
    OR
  • Associate Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology,
    OR
  • Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (March 14, 1990).
Additional Requirements
  • National certification as MT/MLT from ASCP or AMT (preferred or eligible).
  • Foreign-educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF.
  • U.S.

    -educated candidates must provide original transcripts.
Work Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing preferred.
  • For BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology:
    Minimum 1 year of high-complexity clinical laboratory experience required.
  • National and State licensure as required.
