Archbishop Damiano School (ADS) is seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and student-centered Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to support students with multiple disabilities and complex communication needs in a dynamic special education environment. The SLP will provide assessment, therapeutic intervention, consultation, and communication support services to students ages 3–21 while partnering closely with educators, related service providers, and families to promote student growth, independence, and meaningful participation across educational settings.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical knowledge, effective collaboration skills, and a passion for supporting students with diverse learning, sensory, behavioral, and communication needs through individualized and functional therapeutic strategies.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities- Conduct speech-language evaluations and assessments to identify students’ communication strengths and needs.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and therapeutic interventions aligned with students’ educational goals and functional communication needs.
- Provide direct and consultative speech-language therapy services to students with multiple disabilities and complex communication profiles.
- Support students with expressive and receptive language disorders, articulation deficits, fluency disorders, voice disorders, pragmatic language needs, feeding challenges, and other communication-related disabilities.
- Assess and support students utilizing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and devices.
- Collaborate with classroom teams, related service providers, and families to support student communication goals across educational settings.
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute to the development of measurable goals, progress reports, and related documentation in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant therapy documentation, progress monitoring, and service records.
- Support students with sensory, behavioral, adaptive, and communication challenges through individualized therapeutic strategies.
- Monitor student progress and adjust therapeutic approaches as appropriate to maximize student engagement and success.
- Provide consultation, modeling, and training to educational staff, paraprofessionals, and families regarding communication strategies and supports.
- Collaborate with administration and related service leadership to support effective delivery of student services.
- Remain current with emerging best practices, therapeutic techniques, assistive technology, and AAC systems.
- Participate in department meetings, professional development activities, and school-based trainings.
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, flexibility, and a collaborative approach within the school community.
- Observe and maintain all school policies and procedures related to student safety, confidentiality, behavior management, infection control, attendance, and professional conduct.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.
- Valid New Jersey Speech-Language Specialist certification required.
- Valid New Jersey Speech-Language Pathology license through the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs required.
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a school-based or special education setting preferred.
- Experience supporting students with multiple disabilities, medically complex needs, feeding challenges, and complex communication needs preferred.
- Experience utilizing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems preferred.
