Head Chef

The role

Wells Cathedral School is seeking an experienced and motivated Head Chef to lead the day‑to‑day operation of its busy school kitchen within the Catering & Hospitality Department. The successful candidate will ensure the kitchen runs smoothly and efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety and service. Working closely with the Head of Catering & Hospitality, the Head Chef will support and develop the catering team and help deliver an excellent dining experience for pupils, staff and visitors, ensuring the kitchen is well‑resourced to meet the needs of the School and its events.

• Lead and manage the daily operation of the school kitchen
• Maintain the highest standards of food quality, safety and service
• Support and develop members of the catering team
• Work closely with the Head of Catering & Hospitality to deliver an excellent dining experience
• Ensure the kitchen remains well‑resourced to meet the requirements of the School and its events

• Organised, hands‑on leader with a passion for quality food and exceptional service
• Willingness to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and obtaining an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services certificate
• Prepared to have an online search conducted as part of the School’s due diligence during shortlisting
• Ability to declare all previous convictions and cautions, including those which would normally be considered spent, in accordance with DBS filtering rules

• Permanent, full‑time contract
• Term‑time, all year round
