Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist the physician and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and physician access.
  • Function as the liaison between patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Communicates with physicians and office supervisor(s) as appropriate to coordinate patient care, address patient concerns, and ensure patient follow‑up.
  • Demonstrates willingness to function as a team player.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient satisfaction and outstanding patient care.
  • Delivers direct patient care within the scope of licensure and in accordance with SMG policy.
  • Maintains efficient patient flow.
  • Appropriately demonstrates telephone triage protocols and documents in EHR. Ensures that high‑acuity patients are identified and receive care in a timely manner.
  • Ensure proper preparation for patient visits by ensuring that medications, allergies, medical history, and other relevant data are up to date.
  • When appropriate, contacts patients prior to procedure date to counsel them about expectations, answer questions, and explain recovery.
  • Provides patient education for a wide range of surgical procedures and cosmetic treatments.
  • Reviews and updates medication list in EHR. Demonstrates understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures. Accurately and completely documents known allergies in EHR.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with prior authorizations, pharmacy communication, and other tasks related to the efficient and safe prescription of medication to patients.
  • Schedules appointments appropriately and accurately according to department guidelines.
  • Draw medications as per departmental protocol and upon physician’s direction.
  • Assist the dermatologist with outpatient dermatology procedures using specialized medical equipment according to department protocols.
  • Collects lab specimens according to departmental guidelines and accurately label specimens.
  • Documents biopsies into appropriate logs according to department protocol to ensure patient safety and appropriate follow‑up.
  • Assures all patients are correctly identified prior to providing and/or documenting care.
  • Appropriately enter medication and lab orders with close attention to detail.
  • Prioritizes patient care by implementing physician orders and nursing procedures.
  • Effectively communicates problems, concerns, or issues to the Office Supervisor/Manager appropriately and promptly.
  • Obtains vital signs: BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required. Documents appropriately in EHR.
  • Administers injections according to appropriate protocol. Documents injections accurately in EHR.
  • Appropriately adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposal of medical waste.
  • Provides referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner in the PMS and EHR.
  • Checks and maintains logs for emergency equipment according to policy.
  • Facilitates transition of care to UCC/Hospital.
  • Maintains proficiency with department specific equipment troubleshoots and reports malfunctions promptly.

General

Job Functions:

  • Assists in ordering and maintaining of all supplies as assigned.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of patient care.
