Seasonal Garden Shop Assistant

Stew Leonard’s, a family-owned and operated fresh food store founded in 1969, has locations in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. Stew’s earned its nickname, the “Disneyland of Dairy Stores” because of its country-fair atmosphere, with costumed characters and animated entertainment throughout the store that keep children entertained while parents shop.

Seasonal Hourly $17.00 per hour

Seasonal position runs from September 9th - End of December

Must be at least 18 years and older

The Garden Shop Attendant will have a passion for plants, and gardening, excellent customer service skills, and a strong work ethic.

• Greet customers and assist them with their inquiries and purchases
• Provide advice on plants, gardening tools and landscaping materials
• Maintain a clean and organized environment
• Unpack and stock merchandise on shelves and displays
• Willing to learn the seasonality of Garden Shop products, including Spring, Fall and Christmas products.
• Ensure displays are full and merchandised, with appropriate signage
• Provides quality customer service, including interacting with customers, answering customer inquiries, and effectively handling customer complaints
• Other projects, as needed

• Knowledge of plants a plus but not required
• Safely operate a forklift and all other equipment used in the day to day operation of the garden shop
• Demonstrate safe usage of box cutters, skid sheers and other hand tools
• Demonstrate a vast knowledge of plants, garden equipment, Christmas trees
• Good communication skills, both written and oral
• Good organizational skills
• The ability to multi-task

• The garden shop is a seasonal outdoor department and exposure to weather is possible, such as extreme heat or cold, rain or snow, etc.
• The position requires frequent walking, standing, and lifting with a maximum of 100lbs and occasional climbing, pulling, pushing, and reaching

• Greet customers with a friendly smile and positive attitude, ensuring that each customer feels welcome and appreciated.

• Collaborate with team members to ensure the smooth operation of the store, offering assistance and support where needed.
• Improve and maintain the efficiency of the store in order to reach success.
