Mercer County is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Electrician to support Building sand Grounds operations across County facilities. Under direction, the Electrician performs work related to the installation, inspection, repair,servicing, and maintenance of electrical equipment, appliances, machinery,wiring, and circuits. This position is essential to ensuring the safe,reliable, and continuous operation of electrical systems throughout Countybuildings and infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Inspect sand repairs electrical wiring, fixtures, appliances, motors, generators, pumps,power circuits, and machine and elevator controllers.
- Installs,maintains, inspects, repairs, and services high- and low-tension power and lighting systems, including feeders, control equipment, relays, transformers,switches, outlets, signal systems, and related electrical components.
- Maintainselectrical equipment and fixtures through oiling, greasing, adjustment, andreplacement of worn parts.
- Useselectrical testing equipment such as ammeters, voltmeters, and ohmmeters to diagnose system performance and issues.
- Performsemergency electrical repairs and troubleshoots malfunctions and breakdowns.
- Inspects work in progress and completed work to identify defects, fire hazards, or unsafeconditions.
- Works fromelectrical schematics, plans, and specifications in accordance with established procedures and electrical codes.
- Requisition s,stores, safeguards, and properly uses electrical equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Preparesclear, accurate, and technically sound reports documenting findings,conclusions, and recommendations.
- Maintainsessential records and files related to electrical work.
- Learns andutilizes electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the County.
- Performsrelated duties as assigned to support facility operations.
- Three (3) years of experience in work involving the installation, inspection, repair,servicing, and maintenance of electrical equipment, appliances, machinery, andcircuits.
- Applicants who do not possess the required experience may substitute a current, valid
Electrical Contractor License issued by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs for the required experience. - Appointeesmay be required to possess a current, valid Electrical Contractor License issued by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, as determined by the Appointing Authority.
- Appointeeswill be required to possess a valid New Jersey driver's license only ifoperation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Knowledge of electrical equipment, systems, and techniques used in installing,inspecting, repairing, and maintaining wiring, motors, generators, pumps,appliances, and circuits.
- Knowledge of common challenges and safety considerations encountered in electrical work.
- Ability toread and interpret electrical plans, schematics, diagrams, and specifications.
- Ability toanalyze electrical system problems and develop effective solutions.
- Ability toinstall, inspect, repair, and maintain a wide variety of electrical equipment,appliances, fixtures, machinery, and circuits.
- Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability torequisition, store, safeguard, and properly use equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ability toobserve required safety precautions and identify hazardous conditions.
