Special Ed Aide; CLP-Miami

Starting Date: Immediately

Supports the teacher and students to ensure the best possible learning experience for the special education children in a safe and secure environment while maintaining confidentiality.

• Assist one–on–one, in small groups or in the classroom with students under the supervision of the teacher as directed.
• Assist teacher with completing academic tasks.
• Assist in engaging students with instructional activities developed by the teacher (reading, writing, math, spelling, and life skills, etc.).
• Assist in managing student behavior by properly implementing behavior management plans, including using Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training.
• Provide support in monitoring, intervening, and redirecting student behaviors; act to prevent and de‑escalate student behavior.
• Assist students with personal needs, including hygiene, diapering, toileting and clothing.
• Familiarize yourself with individual student requirements and/or behavior plans.
• Assist in data collection related to behavior, academics and instruction.
• Participate in professional development.
• Communicate with community, staff and students to answer questions, disseminate or explain information.
• Assist with bus duty and student retrieval during arrival and dismissal.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:
May be required to take additional classes to address students’ specific needs.

Experience:

• Experience working with children – required.
• Experience working with special education students – preferred.

Knowledge:

• Working knowledge of computers – preferred.

The employee is frequently required to sit, walk or stand for long periods of time; to run after students when needed; to stoop and bend to assist with toileting and other hygiene needs; to lift or move up to 50 pounds, and push or pull up to 90 pounds; to assist students on buses, field trips, and with mobility equipment. The employee must have physical strength, agility, dexterity and mobility to perform job responsibilities.
