Work Hours:
8:55 am – 3:40 pm | Hours per Day: 6.25 hrs
Supports the teacher and the student to ensure the best possible learning experience for special education children in a safe and secure environment while maintaining confidentiality.
Duties & Responsibilities- Assist an individual student one‑on‑one, in small groups, or in the classroom under the supervision of the teacher.
- Assist students with completing academic tasks.
- Engage students with instructional activities developed by the teacher (reading, writing, math, spelling, life skills, etc.).
- Manage student behavior by implementing behavior management plans and using Crisis Intervention and Prevention (CPI) training.
- Monitor, intervene, and redirect student behaviors; prevent and deescalate incidents.
- Assist students with personal needs, including hygiene, diapering, toileting, and clothing.
- Familiarize yourself with individual student requirements and/or behavior plans.
- Assist in data collection related to behavior, academics, and instruction.
- Participate in professional development.
- Communicate with community, staff, and students to answer questions, disseminate or explain information.
High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with children (required).
- Experience working with special education students (preferred).
- Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations (required).
- Working knowledge of computers (preferred).
- Good communication skills (required).
- Adaptability to learn (required).
- Patience (required).
- Ability to adapt to a variety of teaching skills (required).
- Ability to handle and relate to emotional and physical challenges (required).
- Ability to be caring, understanding, patient and friendly toward students (required).

- Ability and willingness to complete any necessary training to perform job responsibilities (required).
- Ability to follow through with behavioral management plans or instruction programs (required).
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English (required).
Employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long periods, run after students when needed, stoop and bend to assist with toileting, lift and move up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 90 pounds, and assist students on and off buses and field trips.
