Supports a positive learning environment by providing additional educational support to English‑Learner students while maintaining confidentiality.

• Supports and works with ESL students individually or in small groups with grade‑level material under the direction of a classroom teacher to speak and write in the English language.
• Supports and reinforces reading and comprehension strategies.
• Records and reports assessment data to teachers and school administrators; completes required forms, reports, and other paperwork.
• Supports curriculum (reading, writing, math) intervention programs for students.
• Works with school team and stakeholders to discuss students’ goals and progress and additional interventions as needed.
• Administers assessment tests and interprets results to identify student needs.
• Attends professional development sessions, training programs and conferences to remain current in the field of literacy.
• Communicates with community, staff, and students to answer questions, disseminate or explain information.
• Serves as a key resource to other school personnel on ESL students and their challenges; responds to questions and resolves problems or concerns as needed.
• Translates oral and written correspondence and serves as a liaison between parents and teachers during and after school hours and during school conferences as needed.
• Provides resource and support to ESL students as they adapt to a new culture.

• Two years of study at an institution of higher education, or an Associate’s degree (or higher), or successful completion of the Work Keys Equivalency Test (prior to date of application). This education is required.

• Experience interacting with children individually and in groups in an instructional/educational type setting preferred.

• Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations, required.
• Knowledge of a different language and cultures, may be required.
• Knowledge of reading, writing and mathematics, required.

• Good oral and written communication skills, required.
• Basic computer skills, required.
• Fluency in the English language, required.
• Accuracy and fluency in speaking, reading and writing a second language preferred; preferably Arabic, Spanish, or Albanian.

• Assist classroom teachers in instruction, reading, writing and mathematics, required.
