Job Summary

Special Education Aide – One‑On‑One (Ojibwa). Supports teacher and student to ensure the best learning experience for special education children in a safe environment while maintaining confidentiality.

• Assist students individually or in small groups under teacher supervision.
• Help students complete academic tasks and engage in instructional activities such as reading, writing, math, spelling, and life skills.
• Implement behavior management plans, including Crisis Intervention and Prevention training, to monitor, intervene, and redirect student behaviors.
• Support students with personal needs including hygiene, toileting, diapering, and clothing.
• Familiarize with individual student requirements and behavior plans.
• Collect data related to behavior, academics, and instruction.
• Participate in professional development.
• Communicate with community, staff, and students to answer questions and explain information.
• Work with other school personnel to maintain a secure environment.

High school diploma or equivalent.

• Experience working with children (required).
• Experience working with special education students (preferred).

• Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations (required).
• Working knowledge of computers (preferred).

• Complete required training and follow behavioral management plans or instruction programs.
• Read, write, and communicate effectively in English for safety instructions, emergency responses, documentation, and interaction.

Employee must sit, walk, stand for extended periods, run after students, stoop and bend, lift up to 50 pounds, push or pull up to 90 pounds. Must assist with toileting, mobility equipment, and bus transport. Physical strength, agility, dexterity, and mobility are required.

Noise level is moderate to loud.
