Provide innovative leadership in the delivery of pedagogical innovations, instructional technology, and distance education. Oversee the staff and daily operations of the Center for Teaching & Learning and all Learning Management Systems and applications. Work closely with the Dean of Learning Resources to evaluate innovative concepts to recommend and provide a wide variety of educational tools and faculty services. Promote long and short-range planning to ensure appropriate CTL support of all faculty members in all modalities to advance excellence in teaching and improvements in student centered learning.
- Oversee pedagogical and technical support to faculty members across the whole institution
- Assume a primary leadership role in the effective use of technology in the teaching and learning process
- Oversee the CTL’s responses to instructor requests.
- Build/maintain a culture of collaboration that encourages faculty to thoughtfully adopt new pedagogical strategies and classroom technologies as they emerge
- Maintain a working knowledge of current and emerging strategies and technologies that support excellence in instructional and academic activities
- Identify training needs and provide appropriate development opportunities for faculty via one-on-one sessions, workshops, or electronic/digital delivery
- Develop and support Learning Unit and college-wide professional development initiatives and events
- Be an active participant in the college governance process, including membership in standing committees and ad hoc committees; participate as an active member in cross-functional teams as assigned
- Promote development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards of effective delivery of on-campus and distance education.
- Oversee services to assist faculty in ensuring all courses offered meet the overall educational standards of the institution and its accreditors
- Remain current with regional and national developments in higher education and update faculty and staff on these developments through CTL classes, workshops, and one-on-one training as appropriate.
- Provides methods and resources for short- and long-range departmental planning and provides oversight for special programs and projects as directed
- Ensure compliance with college, state, and federal codes, guidelines, and policies, including accreditation standards, copyright and intellectual property rights, and Section 508 compliance.
- Oversee adherence to HLC standards for all courses at Macomb, irrespective of delivery method.
- Select, recommend and evaluate staff in accordance with College policies and provisions of labor agreements
- Perform related duties as assigned
Master’s Degree required;
Doctorate degree preferred.
A minimum of three years teaching / instructional experience as well as demonstrated leadership experience related to the duties of the position. Experience working in a distance learning environment and supporting faculty use of an academic learning management system. Familiarity with the Canvas instructional management system, use of AI in educational settings, video/audio editing in an academic setting (e.g., Camtasia, Panopto), and online conferencing/teaching tools required.
Proven track record using technology to enhance teaching and learning and working with college faculty and staff on interactive learning and effective feedback strategies.
