Position Summary: The Engineering Manager will lead the Product Engineering and Design Engineering teams with primary responsibility for executing overall product designs that meet customer requirements, internal specifications, quality expectations, manufacturability needs, and business objectives. This role will provide technical leadership, people management, project execution oversight, and cross-functional coordination to ensure products are designed, released, and supported effectively throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead, coach, and develop Product and Design Engineering team members.
- Drive product design execution from concept through release.
- Ensure designs meet customer, internal, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
- Translate customer and business needs into clear engineering deliverables.
- Review and approve designs, drawings, specifications, changes, test plans, and documentation.
- Set priorities, assign resources, remove roadblocks, and track project timelines.
- Support Sales with engineering input for new business quotes, including feasibility, cost, timing, risk, and requirements.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, Project Management, Purchasing, and Operations to resolve technical issues.
- Lead root cause analysis, corrective actions, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement for design issues.
- Standardize engineering processes, design practices, documentation, reviews, and release procedures.
- Manage team workload, capacity, performance, training, and development.
- Communicate project status, technical risks, resource needs, and execution metrics.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of engineering experience in product design, development, manufacturing support, or related functions.
- 3+ years of leadership experience in supervision, team leadership, project leadership, or technical management.
- Proven ability to lead engineering execution and deliver designs to customer and internal specifications.
- Strong knowledge of drawings, specifications, tolerances, validation, manufacturability, and change management.
- Experience partnering with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, operations, and customer-facing teams.
- Strong communication, decision-making, organization, and problem solving skills.
- Experience managing product and design engineering functions.
- Manufacturing experience with impact on production, quality, cost, and delivery.
- Knowledge of PLM, CAD, ERP, engineering change, and quality management systems.
- Experience with lean, Six Sigma, DFM, FMEA, or structured problem solving.
- Ability to build accountability and develop high-performing engineering talent.
- Product designs meet timeline, customer, internal, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
- Engineering sign-offs are completed on schedule.
- Manage product development (launch) budgets fiscally through completion of program
- Internally driven tooling changes stay within 10% of original tooling purchase.
- Teams demonstrate accountability, collaboration, technical quality, and continuous improvement.
- Cross-functional partners receive timely engineering support.
