GENERAL

SUMMARY:

• Under general supervision, monitors and identifies normal and abnormal electrocardiogram (EKG) rhythms utilizing telemetry monitoring equipment.
• Notifies the appropriate personnel in case of emergency.
• Maintains equipment associated with cardiac monitoring for all patients who are admitted, discharged or transferred. Competently operates telemetry central station monitoring equipment with knowledge of capability features.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Successful completion, during the introductory period, of an arrhythmia course, to include written and verbal testing which will include knowledge and skill validation.
• Demonstrates competency in operating telemetry monitoring equipment and troubleshooting.
• Previous health care experience such as EKG Technician, Medical Assistant, emergency Medical Technician, Nursing Assistant, and/or education in cardiac monitoring preferred.
• Must be able to multitask proficiently and operate equipment in stressful or emergent situations.
