Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Certified Public Accountant with at least five years of hands-on experience preparing and managing all aspects of taxation and client accounting needs, a manager of sorts responsible for all client relations. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of U.S. federal, state, local and some international income taxation and sales tax laws and experience working with individuals, small businesses, corporations, partnerships, trusts, estates and non-profit organizations.

Candidates will also need experience in engagement supervision, administration and taxpayer representation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review federal and state individual income tax returns (Form 1040 and related schedules).
  • Tax planning including but not limited to:
    • Proposing complex tax strategies
    • Cost segregation studies
    • R&D studies
    • Nexus Studies Form 3115
    • Asset sheltering
    • Tax deferral strategies
    • Form 990 Not for Profit preparation
  • Prepare and review business tax returns, including:
    • S Corporations (Form 1120-S)
    • C Corporations (Form 1120)
    • Partnerships (Form 1065)
    • Limited Liability Companies (LLCs)
  • Provide proactive tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities and maximize deductions.
  • Experience with CPA administration tasks including but not limited to billing, collections, system and software review and integration and payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with Internal Revenue Service and Michigan Department of Treasury requirements and filing deadlines.
  • Prepare financial statements and supporting documentation including reviews and compilations. (no audits)
  • Assist with bookkeeping, payroll, and sales tax filings when needed.
  • Represent clients during audits and respond to notices from tax authorities.
  • Advise business owners on entity structure, estimated taxes, and year-end planning.
  • Stay current with changes in federal and Michigan tax laws and accounting standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Active CPA license in the State of Michigan and in good standing.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience handling both personal and business tax returns.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and Michigan tax regulations.
  • Experience with small business accounting and tax planning.
  • Proficiency with accounting and tax software such as Quick Books Online, Drake Tax, Lacerte Tax, Pro Connect Tax Online, or Ultra Tax CS, CCH, PPC, Thompson Rhodes.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and meet deadlines during busy tax seasons.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving owner-operated businesses, real estate investors, and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Knowledge of payroll tax, sales tax, and multi-state tax issues.
  • Familiarity with tax resolution and audit representation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and advanced financial analysis.
