  • Knowledge of department regulations, policies and procedures, City ordinances, State statutes and federal laws, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
  • Knowledge of modern practices, procedures and equipment, including computers and word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
  • Skill in the operation of office and telecommunications equipment and machines including; a personal computer, mobile computer terminal, and phone system.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining complete and accurate reports.
  • Ability to analyze problems and determine proper solutions or make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and police department information.
  • Ability to tolerate physical extremes from being seated and at rest to physical exertion in short periods of time.
  • Ability to perform tasks with intense concentration for extended periods of time while remaining calm.
  • Ability to work in a structured command environment, working as a member of a team or as an individual.
  • Ability to work well and for sustained periods of time in extreme temperature and weather conditions.

  • Responds to non-emergency calls including, but not limited to;
    Nuisance complaints, bicycle recovery, abandoned vehicles, unclaimed property, and non-injury accidents on private property.
  • Respond to emergency calls to provide roadway closure assistance including but not limited to: natural disasters, hazardous materials, chemical/biological/nuclear releases, fires, industrial and transportation accidents, medical emergencies.
  • Prepares accurate written reports of particular incidents and events with emphasis on clarity, completeness, proper grammar, and punctuation.
  • Assists in the investigation of motor vehicle accidents.
  • Prepares lost and found property reports.
  • Assist with vehicle service and maintenance.
  • Accesses, enters and retrieves information from the department computer system.
  • Performs desk and in-house assignments.
  • Responds to telephone or in-person lobby traffic inquiries.
  • Greets the general public, provides information on departmental services, directs callers.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute mail for assigned function or division.
  • Provides courier service for the Police Department.
  • Communicate information to the general public, co-workers, and city personnel while promoting positive working relationships with the public and city personnel.
  • Control, regulate, and direct traffic and pedestrians using barriers, flares, and hand signals as a result of an emergency or community event.
  • Performs parking enforcement for restricted parking areas.
  • Assists Animal Protection Officer in related activities, and provides animal control coverage during absences.
  • Provides escorts for funeral processions and wide loads.
  • Safely drive and/or operate motor vehicles and equipment without causing harm to self or others; wear all required personal protective equipment including but not limited to latex gloves, mask, reflective safety vest.
  • Attends court on/off duty and compensated per applicable bargaining unit agreements.
  • Interact and work with citizens; explain city ordinances or other City procedures of public information.
  • Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues and supervisors.
  • Participate in mandatory and elective training.
