Qualifications

Ability to operate a para-transit vehicle and mechanical equipment in a safe and courteous manner without causing harm to self or others. Knowledge of safe driving skills, state regulations, laws pertaining to the operating of motor vehicles; local street and road systems. Ability to answer incoming calls on multiple lines in a courteous and friendly manner, transferring calls to appropriate areas within the department.

Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing and calculate simple math accurately; type accurately; proofread accurately. Ability to perform first aid and CPR upon completion of proper training. Ability to work with the general public; demonstrate sensitivity and awareness in communicating with people with various disabilities in a courteous, sensitive, respectful and effective manner. Ability to work under pressure, e.g. fixed time schedules, construction detours, adverse weather and road conditions, vehicle breakdowns or accidents, and medical emergencies (without providing medical treatment) Ability to work with minimal supervision and make decisions according to prescribed policy.

Ability to calculate simple math; comprehend route schedules/maps and written communications. Availability to work any shift during normal operational hours (currently 5:30 AM – 7:30 PM. Monday through Saturday) including split shifts. Must be able to work as a team member with other drivers, maintenance, and office staff. Must be able to operate electronic devices(tablets) used on the buses used for passenger counts and fare transactions.

Ability to bend, twist, and climb continuously; lift, carry and lower weight regularly; and reach above or at shoulder level frequently. Constant sitting and twisting; repetitive reaching and pulling motions; provide assistance to passengers on route with occasional pushing of a minimum of 200 pounds or lifting of packages of approximately 50 pounds. Must be able to reach, crouch, stoop and crawl while performing bus cleaning, servicing, cleaning or inspection procedures, to handle tire gauge, fuel pumps, brooms, brushes and other equipment need to perform task.

Must have strength for standing while servicing buses, sweeping floors, fueling buses, walking to and from buses, sitting while driving buses and lifting supplies, carrying various supplies, brooms, pulling bus doors, and hoses.

Special Requirements

High school diploma/GED. United States citizen. Must maintain access to a means of communication. Possession of a valid Iowa Class D
-Chauffeur license, which allows a driver age 18 or older to operate small passenger
-for-hire vehicles designed to carry 15 or fewer passengers (including the driver). Must maintain Class D – Chauffer license throughout the period of employment. Subject to thorough background investigation, DOT physical exam including drug testing and functional task capacity testing after job offer. Must have acceptable motor vehicle driving record. No OWI violation with driver’s license revocation under a test refusal within the last ten years or;

OWI violation when tested in excess of the legal limit within the last ten years. Smoking is prohibited by Iowa code on any transit vehicle. Experiences with the elderly, disabled clients, sales, customer relations or social services are desirable experiences. Van driving experience and experience with computers, and Windows Microsoft Office is also desirable.

City of Clinton and its commercial zone; operate a small 14 +1 passenger bus or van.

Maintain order and safety among passengers aboard the para-transit vehicle in accordance with department policies, city ordinances, and state laws. Perform daily pre-trip vehicle inspection of assigned para-transit vehicle and maintain a clean and orderly vehicle throughout the day.
