Introduction
The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters.

This position offers a salary range of $70,743 - $99,889. Initial salary offers are determined by qualifications, experience, and available budget, and typically do not exceed $110,288.

Main Purpose of JobThe OAG, Maryland Department of Health (MDH), is seeking applicants for the position of Administrator II to serve as an Office Manager. The MDH’s mission is to promote and improve the health and safety of all Marylanders through disease prevention, access to care, quality management, and community engagement. The MDH is a large, dynamic agency with a $21 billion budget in fiscal year 2026 and over 10,000 employees located at headquarters in Baltimore and throughout the State’s 24 local health departments.
The OAG MDH team includes 63 attorneys and 10 support professionals.
Reporting directly to the Principal Counsel, this position oversees and manages the unit’s operational, administrative, and fiscal activities. The role is primarily responsible for ensuring efficient fiscal and administrative operations, providing attorneys and support staff with the necessary resources, equipment, and funding to perform their duties effectively.
Position DutiesKey Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the office’s budget, including preparation of annual and quarterly projections and approval of expenditures.
- Manage the allocation of costs to appropriate units within the Maryland Department of Health.
- Manage the use of the corporate purchasing card assigned to the OAG, including the preparation of the monthly reconciliations.
- Manage vendor accounts supporting the operation of the unit.
- Responsible for personnel management activities to include onboarding and offboarding of staff, oversight of timekeeping, leave usage, and reports.
- Develop and implement technology plans and policies, including updating software and hardware and ensuring compliance.
- Arrange for necessary training to meet technical advances.
- Monitor compliance with all mandatory training for unit employees.
- Supervise 6 support professionals, including assignment of duties, management of schedules, and completion of performance reviews.
- Coordinate various projects within the office, including annual data and physical inventories.
- Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. - Experience:
Five years of administrative or professional experience. - Strong interpersonal skills are essential.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, capable of prioritizing multiple tasks, and demonstrate initiative in identifying and solving problems as they arise.
Substitutions- Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
