Description

Lead Constructability Specialist is a senior technical and operational leader responsible for advancing constructability practices across the enterprise. This role guides and oversees the planning, integration, and execution of constructability and prefabrication strategies on major projects, ensuring consistent standards across teams and mentoring others in best-known methods. The Lead acts as the bridge between field operations, engineering, VDC, and executive leadership ensuring constructability is embedded in all stages of design and construction.

They help scale and standardize constructability workflows, drive continuous improvement, and shape the company’s strategic approach to model-based construction and field-first design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead constructability effort across large programs or multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Develop and/or review redlines and initial layouts to support field coordination and design validation.
  • Establish enterprise-wide standards, workflows, and tools to ensure consistent application of constructability principles.
  • Serve as the top constructability resource for project executives, operations leadership, VDC teams, and prefabrication departments.
  • Influence design development during preconstruction and engineering to optimize for safety, schedule, cost, and prefab.
  • Direct constructability input during milestone design reviews, value design workshops and field coordination planning.
  • Support constructability elements of project pursuits and client interviews.
  • Partner with prefabrication leaders to drive scalable, assembly-driven design and modular construction.
  • Help develop prefab scopes, installation workflows, and field logistics that improve quality and labor productivity.
  • Ensure feedback loops from field and prefab operations are captured and used to enhance future designs.
  • Lead efforts to pilot and adopt new technologies or workflows that enhance constructability, such as model-to-fab solutions, AR/VR site validation, or AI-supported clash resolution.
  • Evaluate software and toolsets for constructability efficiency and standardization across teams.
  • Contribute to digital transformation initiatives related to design and construction integration.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Constructability Specialists and Senior Specialists.
  • Conduct training sessions, publish guidelines, and share best practices internally and externally.
  • Support resource planning and team development to meet project demand.
  • Make safe decisions to ensure safety and health of self and others.
  • Utilize LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure efficiency.
  • Promote and model company mission, vision, values, DEI, and ethical business practices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience as an electrician in electrical construction with significant time in field leadership, VDC/BIM coordination, or prefabrication.
  • Advanced proficiency with Navisworks, BIM 360/ACC, Revizto, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and fabrication modeling platforms. Familiarity with Revit a plus.
  • Expert level knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), construction methods, and electrical systems installation practices.
  • Prior involvement in corporate innovation initiatives, digital transformation, or construction technology adoption.
  • Recognized as a subject matter expert in constructability within the electrical or broader construction industry.
  • Active involvement in industry forums, trade organizations, or technical working groups.
  • Familiarity with Lean Construction, Target Value Design, and model-driven workflows.
  • Experience building and managing technical teams and supporting enterprise-level process improvement.
  • Strong influence and collaboration skills across all levels from field teams to executives.
