As the Mohs Histotechnician
, you will play a vital role in supporting Mohs micrographic surgery by preparing and processing high-quality frozen tissue sections for microscopic examination. This position is responsible for embedding, sectioning, staining, and accurately mapping tissue specimens to ensure precise diagnosis and effective patient care. Working closely with the Mohs surgeon and clinical team, the Histotechnician ensures efficient workflow, regulatory compliance, and the highest standards of laboratory quality and patient safety.
- Prepare frozen tissue sections for Mohs micrographic surgery with precision and efficiency.
- Embed, freeze, section, stain, and mount tissue samples to produce high-quality diagnostic slides.
- Accurately map and orient tissue margins to ensure proper documentation and surgical correlation.
- Operate, clean, and maintain cryostats, staining instruments, and related laboratory equipment.
- Perform routine H&E staining, slide quality control, and documentation in compliance with lab standards.
- Maintain CLIA documentation, participate in inspections, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Organize and manage laboratory inventory, supplies, and equipment maintenance schedules.
- Collaborate closely with Mohs surgeons and clinical staff during live surgical procedures.
- Consistently uphold accuracy, efficiency, and patient-centered standards in all tasks.
- Perform additional laboratory duties as needed to support daily operations.
- Other duties as assigned
- Minimum 2+ years of Mohs frozen section experience REQUIRED
- Proficiency operating a cryostat independently
- Strong slide quality control and tissue embedding skills
- Understanding of CLIA and lab accreditation standards
- Organized, dependable, calm under pressure
- Team-oriented with strong communication skills
- ASCP HT or HTL certification (Preferred)
- Dermatology or surgical pathology experience (Preferred)
- Experience with lab inspections (CLIA) [Preferred]
