RN Director of Nursing, Emergency Department

The Director of Nursing serves as a key member of the entity-based Division of Nursing leadership team, overseeing one or more defined units within organized nursing and patient care services. This role is responsible for creating a practice environment that reflects a patient-first philosophy and implements care delivery models that prioritize quality, safety, and compassion. As a professional role model, the Director of Nursing champions the mission, vision, and values of the Division of Nursing and Med Star Health while ensuring the cost-effective use of human, material, and financial resources and upholding high standards of nursing practice to deliver exceptional care to the populations served.

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program required;
  Master’s degree in Nursing or a health‑related field from a nationally accredited program preferred.
• 5–7 years of nursing experience required; 1–2 years of management and leadership experience preferred.
• RN – Registered Nurse – Maryland state licensure or Compact State Licensure required.
• Specialty certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization in either the candidate’s clinical specialty or Nursing Administration required within 2 years.
• CPR – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross required within 90 days.
• Additional unit or specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
• C-EFM – Electronic Fetal Monitoring from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) required for perinatal nurses (labor and delivery, antepartum, antenatal testing) within 12 months of hire. New graduate nurses or nurses new to the specialty (labor and delivery, antepartum, antenatal testing) will have 15 months from date of hire to obtain EFM certification.
